Reversal

An Online Solo Exhibition with Andrew Nosay

Andrew Nosay is a photographer and educator based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University with his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts Education in August of 2026. He is drawn to analog photographic processes because of its tactility, and its rendering of texture, light and color. He currently teaches his photography to high school students in Michigan.

Andrew Nosay's photos, taken from 2019-2026, are mostly close up, tight crop inverted portraits disrupt that the general expectation of portraiture. Inversion creates lighting conditions that are impossible: black catch lights in eyes, pure black skies, and more strip away what's familiar in portraiture. Nosay's photos are a mixture of 35mm and 120 film, some originally being color, and some being black and white, all having scrambled values to make the familiar look alien. Influenced by artists like Rene Magritte, Man Ray, Hans Bellmer, Andrew Prokos, and more, Nosay presents his Reversal portraits in an unordinary, ghostly way.
