Intro to Printmaking (8 week workshop)

Ages: Adults and teens ages 14-17 with signed parental permission (tweens and younger teens are welcome to sign up with an adult who is also taking the course)
Learn the basics of relief, intaglio, and monotype printmaking in the cozy atmosphere of Dzanc House! Lena will support and guide you in creating and printing your own designs, plus you'll learn to use a printmaking press. In this 8-week course, we will do linocut, drypoint, collograph, and monotype printmaking.
We'll start with a simple relief (linoleum carving, or "linocut") project using black ink on white paper, and we'll branch out from there to include color inks, learn other printmaking processes, and explore your own unique ideas! Most tools will be provided for you to use during class, and you can borrow a lino carving tool to use at home.
This class is designed for beginners, but intermediate-level printmakers are welcome, too! Have some prior experience with other types of printmaking? In this 6-week course, you'll continue honing your skills at drawing realistically from direct observation of the world around us. We’ll practice drawing ordinary objects, still-life arrangements, rooms, plants, people, self-portraits, and maybe even outdoors (weather permitting). We’ll work in graphite pencil, charcoal, Conté, and chalk pastel.
Compared to a beginner drawing class, we’ll devote more energy to honing the skills you’ve already begun developing. We’ll make longer drawings and more-detailed drawings. We’ll explore more drawing media. We’ll practice seeing color and using it in various modes (e.g., expressive, realistic). And we’ll practice “challenging” subjects like people, hands, and portraits.
We’ll start with a basics refresher day, practicing line drawing and skills for seeing and drawing accurate proportions (e.g., pencil sighting, relative measuring), as well as a review of shading skills. After that, we’ll dive into new challenges!

Charm Making Workshop with Bri Broderick
